Cultural Spaces Research Group

"Cultural Spaces" research group, founded in 2010, coordinated by Prof. Elena Bonta, has organized two editions of the International Conference “Cultural Spaces”. The topic for the first edition of this international conference was Identity within/beyond borders and it started from the idea that, nowadays, cultural spaces show the tendency of having flexible borders (be they linguistic, ethnical, political, historical, social, etc).
The second edition of the International Conference “Cultural Spaces” debated the topic of margin(ality) under the heading Margins, Marginalization and the Discourse of Marginality. It attempted to explore the definition of margins and marginalization, as well as the assumptions about the centre/margin power structure and interaction, as analysing the phenomenon of marginalization is not only a survey of a unit of society (the margin) but also an examination of the relationship and interaction between textual representation and claims to power. Interaction in/between cultural spaces is of a constant interest for the members of this research group.
